TOKYO, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks were mixed Friday morning as investors both bought issues posting solid earnings and outlooks and sold on concerns over the U.S. economy and a resurgence of COVID-19 infections in parts of Europe.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 16.14 points, or 0.07 percent, from Thursday to 23,523.37.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, dropped 4.65 points, or 0.28 percent, at 1,627.14.

Marine transportation and securities brokerage issues led notable gainers, while pharmaceutical and real estate issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
