LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, April 10(PIA) - - Around 5,034 recipients of the Department of Labor and Employment's (DOLE) Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged / Displaced Workers (TUPAD) who started work middle of March are set to receive their pay third week of April.

DOLE-Benguet Provincial Director Emerito Narag said each of the beneficiaries from the 140 barangays in the 13 municipalities of the province will receive P5,250.00 corresponding to the 15 days of work they rendered.

TUPAD is a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers especially those affected during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Narag said the TUPAD grant amounting to P28.5million for the said batch was made possible through the Office of the Province's Caretaker Congressman Eric Yap coursed through DOLE-Benguet. The province distributes equally the assistance to the 140 barangays and not per municipality.

For this year, the province is allotted P180-million TUPAD assistance for the 140 barangay beneficiaries under the Office of the Provincial Caretaker, according to Narag.

Last March, some 481 TUPAD grantees received their pay amounting to P2.5M. Part of the funds was through the initiative of Governor Melchor Diclas secured from the Office of Senator Joel Villanueva.

Narag urged the creation of barangay public employment and services office (PESO) to handle and monitor the implementation of the program in ensuring the qualification and compliance of those who have been selected. He lauded the La Trinidad local government which created its barangay employment office. (JDP/SCA-PIA-CAR, Benguet)
